Today’s film is an absolute anarchist classic about the tireless work of the movement’s most well-known exponent Noam Chomsky.

The film looks at how main stream media filters a skewed version of real events to create legitimacy for what are, basically, criminal, militaristic, political regimes.

First released in 1992, the film has dated very well. The technology may have changed with the computer and internet revolution, yet the manipulation by very small concentrations of elite power remains.

The film is based on the book Manufacturing Consent – The Political Economy of the Mass Media by Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky was first published in 1988 and remains one of the most relevant studies into the revolving door between politics and the media.

Despite the commonly-held view of journalistic independence, freedom of press, and notions of journalistic integrity, Herman and Chomsky bring to light the relationship between corporate or MSM and governments. News items are chosen to manufacture consent, generate advertising revenue, drive hidden political agendas whilst enriching the powerful media corporation protagonists.
